Perseverance Theatre cancels performances through May 1 amid COVID case

Scheduled performances of “Fun Home” for April 27 through May 1 are canceled, Perseverance Theatre announced.

The cancellation is because of a breakthrough case of COVID-19 in the company, according to the theater. The musical opened last week. Masks and proof of vaccination were required for attendees.

“Perseverance Theatre’s highest priority is the health and safety of our patrons, staff, and guest artists,” said the theater’s board and staff in a news release announcing the cancellations.

People who bought tickets for canceled performances will be contacted via email regarding rescheduling their tickets for future performances, according to Perseverance Theatre. A future announcement will be made regarding future performances.

The tentative plan is for performances after May 1 to continue as scheduled, according to the theater.

People who attended opening-weekend shows received email notification of the breakthrough case on Tuesday, ahead of the cancellation announcement.

“We are confident in the protocols and mitigation plan that we have in place to help keep the audience safe and believe there is little cause for concern,” said Frank Delaney, managing director for Perseverance Theatre in the email. “Our mitigation plan requires every audience member to wear a mask and show proof of vaccination. We also have HEPA air filters running in the performance space and perform cleaning of the theater before and after every performance.”
